Music Theory

Learn how to read and write music

Music Theory Grades 1-8:

To compliment all instrumental tuition at our school, we guide students (both adult and children) through the ABRSM syllabus. Grade 5 music theory is a requirement for those who wish to take the higher grades on their instrument. We recommend starting a music theory class as soon as you begin preparing for Grade 1 on your instrument.
We offer classes in Kiltra School of Music and also online, where participants are welcome from anywhere in the world!
We also offer Grades 6 to 8 for advanced students with a strong interest and love for music. These grades offer a fascinating insight into how complicated music works, with 50% of the course on creativity in composition and harmony, and the other 50% on general principles through analysis of piano and orchestral scores.
It is also possible to arrange one on one tuition in music theory for advanced students, or those who wish to take the Grade 5 exam in a shorter space of time. Please get in touch to make enquiries.

Classes are available online or in person. Every Thursday at 6-7pm.

All ABRSM Music Theory Exams are taken online at three different sessions throughout the year. These are sully in March, June or November.

The fees for this class are €170 per term and there are two terms in the academic calendar.
